Well, 3 Cups of Tea is finally done. Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I thought it was very interesting to learn how people in other countries live. Also, I think it was a good experience for me to realize that people in the middle east are not just terrorists but real people.
The last section of the book that we read, I thought that Greg did not care as much. I think he did in a way, but he was finally getting burnt out. He needed to spend time with his family. His poor kids never saw him, and his wife would always have to worry about him and miss him. I was glad that they did get someone to help run everything because Greg needed someone to help him some, however; I do not believe that he slowed down much. I give a lot of credit to Greg for all that he does, but I believe that he was missing some of the greatest things in life by doing as much work as he was. Family is one of the best things that one can experience.
When the war in the middle east started, I was pretty young. I guess that I never thought about people's lives being affected over there, and I thought that if they were, they were just bad guys anyhow. Now that I'm older, I feel a lot of sympathy for the people that did have to die in order for there to be peace in the world. Also, it seemed like the military did a lot more harm than good. If they wanted the trust of the people there and to get rid of the bad guys, they should not have angered the people. I felt bad for Greg and his crew because everyone stereotyped them like we do with people from the middle east. Once again, it gave me another lesson that I can not judge people by their looks because they could be the nicest person in the world.
To promote peace through education is one of the greatest things I have ever heard of. The way that the people trust Greg is outstanding. That is what the goverenment needs to do is get the military in there and let the people know we are here to help, not to ruin their lives. I don't know what I would do without an education. I would probably be in a lot of trouble because I would be so bored. Being in school teaches children that they can do something and be someone. The first girl in Mortenson's school to graduate and need money for more schooling proves that doing what Greg has done really does make a difference in the world. Girls going to school for one thing was amazing, let alone going on to more education and demanding money for it.
3 Cups of Tea made me realize what a great life I do have. I need to learn to appreciate it more. I could have no education, no water, and little food. Even if I do not have the things I want or even need, the people in the middle east taught me that I can appreciate everything I do have and there is no need for other things. Overall, I thought that the book was a great learning experience and that Greg Mortenson is an amazing man that should always be remembered and told about. He's a great example that one man can make a difference in the world.
